Poros
The
first sight of Poros comes as the ferry rounds the northern
promontory and enters the narrow channel between the islands
and the Peloponnese mainland.
A
pretty jumble of red-roofed houses rising up from the shoreline
, craft of all sizes come and go, weaving around each other
like shoppers in a crowded marketplace .
All
this activity provides endless free entertainment for the audience
in the harbour front taverns and cafes.
Most
of the population live here in the main town .on the tiny volcanic
outcrop of Sferia, divided from the sparsely populated main
part of Poros by a narrow canal.
Askeli
Bay , just out of town on the way to the Monastery of the Spring
of Life, is where most of the newer tourist accommodation has
sprung up amongst the pine and citrus groves on the hillsides
above the shaded shingle beach.
Poros
offers watersports a wide choice of restaurants a couple of
discos and host of lively bars . and suits couples and singles
better than families .
Island
hopping to Spetse, Aegina and Hydra is easy, and costs very
little to take your hire push-bike across to the near by mainland
to discover sandy beaches and unspoiled villages.
