The NEC. Birmingham.

In 1959 the Pollitzer Committee where asked to investigate the lake of a quality trade and exhibition venue in Britain. There report underlined the need for a centre and concluded that such exhibitions would play an important part in the promotion of world trade. The first phases was opened by Her Majesty The Queen, and comprised of 89,000m sq of exhibition space. In 1989 three more halls where added increasing the venue to 125,000m sq. Further expansion in 1993 took the total amount of quality exhibition space to 158,000m sq. and in September 1998 four new halls where added taking the overall space available to 190,000m sq or two million square feet, which makes the NEC the seventh largest exhibition centre in Europe.

Set in 628 acres it now has 20 interconnecting halls with endless possibilities for staging events as diverse as Crufts Dog Show to The British International Motor Show, with extensive conference and banqueting facilities. Over 4 million people visit the NEC and the NEC Arena each year. The Symphony Hall hailed as one of the finest concert halls in the world, and acclaimed by international music circles to have some of the best acoustics. As home of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra it plays host to visiting international orchestras and famous soloists, and also complements its programme with rock, pop, folk, country and jazz music and the occasional stand up comedian.

The NEC Arena stages concerts and sporting events on a grand scale. For superstars such as Pavarotti, Sir Cliff Richards or Boyzone and international event like the World Figure Skating Championships or the World Gymnastic Championships. Performers have delighted over 10 million music and sports lovers since the arena that can seat 12,000 first opened. The International Convention Centre has 11 halls and ten executive meeting rooms, able to accommodate anything from a meeting for three people to 7,000. It hosts a wide variety of conferences and high profile events such as World and European Summits. Run by a highly skilled and dedicated team working to make every event a success.
