TURKEY

REGIONS OF TURKEY
MARMARA REGION
This includes the Europen part of the country, Eastern thrace, and the sorthern part of the Sea of Marmara. On the Europen side, the topography is rolling steppeland and low hills, good for grazing and farming and industry. On the southern shore of the Sea of Marmara there are low hills and higher mountains. The land is very rich, excellent for agriculture. The average air tempurature is 14 °C.
AEGEAN REGION
Higher mountains which run parallel to each other from east to west are separated from each other by meandering rivers. The mild climate of the sea can penetrate inland, making the whole area the most agreeable place to live. Figs, olives, grapes, citrus trees, tobacco fields, cotton fields, and sun flower fields constantly change the view as one travels in this region. The average air temperature for the year is 18 °C.
MEDITERRANEAN REGION
The great Toros ( Taurus ) mountain range runs parallel to the coastline of the Mediterranean. In some parts the slopes of the mountain dives into the sea and in some parts, as if protecting the fertile fields, the mountains encircle the valleys. The Temperature is slightly warmer than of the Aegean Region but it is always a nice contrast to see the snow capped mountains almost year round from the sea, where the sea temperature will be not less than 22 - 23 °C.
Vegetables, fruits and cotton are produced in this region.
CENTRAL ANATOLIA
Surrounded by high mountain ranges, the high Anatolian plateau is spotted with snow capped peaks. The land is mostly rolling steppe, though, good for growing wheat and raising sheep. The rainfall is usually in the spring and fall. The average temperature is around 11 °C.
BLACK SEA REGION
The coastline is 1700 km ( 1000 miles ). The narrow strip of land which is squeezed between the high range of mountains and the Black Sea can not help but be very generous when the moderate temperature and the right amount of rainfall is added to the typical characteristics of the region. Fishing, tea and hazel nut production are the major activities of the people. The best cooks of the country come from this area, as well. The average temperature is around 16°C.
SOUTHEAST ANATOLIA
The rivers Tigris and Euphrates run through this region. The new project under construction is partially completed and once dry, rocky valleys are now or will be properly irrigated to create one of the agriculturarlly richer corners of the country. The 20 % of oil which is being consumed in Turkey is drilled from the wells around Batman thus the region contributes a lot to the Turkish economy. The rainfall is very scarce ( 382 mm per year ) and the average temperature is around 16 °C.
EASTERN ANATOLIA
Mountainous and wildly beautiful landscape takes one from the peaks of Mount Ararat, which is covered with glaciers, to Warm valleys where grape and tobacco can be grown. The average temperature is a cool 9 °C but varying between 38 °C and - 45 °C. Raising livestock and growing wheat are the main sources of income for the people living here. The socially and economically neglected image of the region has been fast changing in the last decade.
