The Channel Islands

The Channel Islands have a mild climate continental flavour while historically link to the UK there's a wide variety of lovely beaches, cliff top walks and historic buildings.

Fish is important to the islands, which feature many fine restaurants. On Jersey at St Ouen's the 5 mile stretch of beach is very impressive, so are the La Rocco Towers. Jersey Wildlife Trust was founded here by the naturalist Gerald Durrell to protect endangered species. Clean beaches, superb golf, fishing, cruising and windsurfing it offers them all.

In Guernsey the capital town of St Peter Port is home to Castle Cornet, that guards the harbour.

The author Victor Hugo lived here and his house is open to the public.
